I admit that sometimes I enjoy rising and eating breakfast and then taking a little nap, arising just in time for lunch. That could be second breakfast.
Another local restaurant in Naperville called Egg Harbor sits near the river and on the way home from the hospital. After a visit to the hospital, ( hopefully less of them are looming ), it’s the perfect place to stop for a treat.
It’s almost always busy, and on warm days in the summer weekends, it’s packed, but the weekdays I have been there it shares a lively energy and flow of people that’s just right for a quick repast. They have specials, and elaborate gluten free choices, but nothing so exotic like a sloppy joe omelet at the Pancake Cafe.
They call it egg harbor, and they do eggs perfectly. I always start with the strawberry-orange juice ( fresh squeezed ) and then a cinnamon roll followed by biscuits and sausage gravy.
Today I celebrated with a variation of eggs benedict, an English muffin, with corned beef hash on top, then hollandaise sauce with a perfect poached egg on top. My daughter who is trim and fit, enjoyed a BLT variation which included a small omelet in the sandwich. All that and a cinnamon roll warm from the oven… we were ready for home, a nap, a run, and then second breakfast of course.
May you celebrate life’s small victories too.

The less healthy of the two choices looks yum. My breakfast was a muffin, but I would’ve taken this as my second breakfast.
I was sad to find out how bad muffins are, ( unless baked with health in mind ) — so now when I eat bad, might as well go all the way!
Oh my gosh now i’m so hungry!
Time for a reward!
i think so!
be bold be daring, be full!
burp
everybody always tells me I’m full of bologna!
is it true?
of course!
lol that’s a good thing…
That breakfast looks delicious!!!
it was special, thanks for stopping by. Chicago is a wonderful town for foodies!
I’ve never had eggs benedict, but they look so lovely. I think I might have to whip out the joy of cooking and try to make me some. Yummy.
some treats are worthy of special occasions. Let me know how it turns out.
Dear Bill,
.
Tomorrow, it’s eggs for breakfast in celebration of your small victory. I’m so happy that this sounds like good news
Mik
Thanks Mik! Hope you and yours are well!
I can see you definitely need me here!!
back to healthy food now!
sausage biscuits and gravy with two scrambled eggs on top, extra gravy and extra crumbled sausage is my favorite breakfast ( The Mess)
but I’ll still go out with you guys for cinnamon buns and fresh strawberry-orange juice…
Randy
any time Randy, you can have a seat at our table
Breakfast is my favourite meal if I don’t have to cook it and if I have to cook it, then I make it for dinner!
I hope you have way less trips to the hospital too my friend!
did you ever make sloppy joes for breakfast?
NO! yuck! and biscuits and gravy is another south of the border thing that just doesn’t appeal to me! But I imagine you don’t like fries and (beef) gravy or worse yet poutine!
I’ve had polenta, but never poutine. What’s that?
I thought everyone up north had pancakes and maple syrup!
yes and we eat penguin eggs and live in igloos eh. hahaha
poutine is a Quebec invention and is making its way around the world. I saw it in the Dominican Republic last year…it’s fries, cheese curds and hot gravy.

love cheese curds. Never thought of them with gravy.
It’s a French Canadian thing – loved it as a teenager, can’t stomach it now! You should try it and perhaps tourtiere as well. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/meat-pie-tourtiere/ Wow I’m overtired today and extra chatty – poor you!
that’s just the way you should be!
Once my sister asked her French Canadian husband, what’s in a meat pie – he raised one eye and said meat?
Well now you know! You should try that recipe, take a photo and write a blog about it…oui, c’est une bonne idee! (yes, that’s a good idea!)
are you polyglot? I am just glot.
what the heck is that? hahaha
multilingual, I only speak American.
Ich spreche auch Deutsch! I speak German too!
you are polyglot !
Ok you win this round! Are you overtired too? I call Uncle!
sweet dreams!
Bill if you like biscuits and gravy (andcorned beef hash and sloppy Joe’s) – i’m sure you will like poutine – it’s another great mess of a breakfast feast.
Guranteed for you to go – “poo” “teen”
not to be cornfused with poo-tang
( laughing ) I will withhold all comments under fear of my life!
my fave breakfast: 2 eggs, over easy, bacon, Rye toast, slices of tomatoe and fried onions and potatoes.
that sounds pretty good. I especially like leftover dinner for breakfast, especially curry!
cold pizza! or refried mashed potatoes on toast!
refried potatoes, yumm…. pizza yumm… omelets with hot sauce!
omelets with hot salsa! yum! it’s funny because I have to be awake about 2 hours before I can eat breakfast but I do love it especially for supper!
your best dates are dinner and dancing at the diner?
laughing… that’s kinda true!
What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? You knows about them, don’t you?
Bill, just reading your menu makes me worry I won’ fit into my gowns anymore!
I prescribe more dancing!
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, I’m often known to have two of them – even if one of them is at 6pm!
six pm, just the beginning of the the fun!
Oh that looked yummy! And I remember watching Lord of the Rings and laughing so hard when one of the guys (I can’t remember which one) was talking about second breakfast. I don’t know why I laughed so hard, but I did.
Have you seen The Hobbit?
OMG, I’m hungry now after seeing your treats. I’m sure you enjoyed! Well deserved too!
I’m mostly vegan, but when my daughter comes up sometimes we slip. It was very good!
Reading this made me so hungry!!
Glad it did, if you ever get to Naperville you know where to go. Thanks for stopping by!
This was a great weekend! So glad we could spend it together.
me too!
Also love that you called this post second breakfast. HAHA. I like it.
it’s a bad hobbit I read about!
