still riding

The Dupage River asphalt trails wind next to it. Shaded, scenic with no car traffic its wonderful for riding. On empty roads at 07:26 AM we spin out 15 miles and then sweep back through the path and across Fermi Lab. In Fermi, with scenic roads, ponds full of frogs and herons, and buffalo grazing, we cruise over the underground particle accelerator where scientists once thought to unravel the universe itself. This day, we fly single file at 18 mph, subatomic, but glorious and full of the joy of movement. With a broken hand every bump is painful, but my Specialized Roubaix is very, very smooth. Still, over railroad tracks and construction, I may have questioned the workers legitimacy out loud. But at the end, after 35 wonderful miles, we stop for iced tea or coffee and chat about nothing, which is really everything.

Wearing the jersey my lovely daughters gifted to me. Do they really think this of me? I hope not, perhaps they just share my sense of humor…

thanks — perhaps this a payback for a story from long ago… my oldest and I were riding bikes over to play basketball, she had one hand holding the basketball, and one on the handlebars. For some reason she took her hand off the handlebars, and quickly crashed into the street.

A neighbor lady was walking and she ran up to her, making comforting noises, when I rode up and said — “You’re fine, let’g go”.

Being the diligent daughter she was, she hops back on and we ride away.

A minute later, I look ever and she is scraped everywhere, bleeding like crazy….

“Hmmm — maybe we should go back and let your mom look at this”….

she and I still laugh about it…

ain’t made the horse caint be rode, ain’t made the cowboy caint be throwed.

of course I am not a cowboy, but the translation would provide the underlying logic on getting back on…

the jersey cracks me up too.

      thanks for stopping by….
