christmas shopping

“Can you keep a secret?” Two little heads nodding up and down in unison. “You won’t tell Mom?” Funny how little ones can nod from their head to their toes. “OK, Mom will wait here in the mall while we go and pick out two presents.” And hand in hand in hand we walked, hopped and skipped into the department store.

Back in those days, earrings fit the budget so we headed right to the jewelry counter. Excited, two intense shoppers examined pair after pair until satisfied we left the store with two tiny boxes safely bagged.

“Remember, keep the secret.”

“We will Dad,” and off we went to find Mom.

She was waiting where we left her, and approaching the girls left me in a hopping, dancing, skipping run shouting at the top of their lungs, “Mom, we bought you earrings!”

Merry Christmas, my love…

I bought you earrings....

I bought you earrings….

Oh, my goodness…that’s adorable! I have an almost identical story from when my husband took our two small girls shopping for a birthday present for me. All the while, he kept telling them…now, don’t tell Mom…it’s a secret. So as soon as they come in the house after shopping, the youngest makes a beeline for me and announces…”Mom, we bought you a present, it’s white and it’s a sweater!”

Happy Holidays to you, Bill…I hope it’s a wonder-filled one!

You asked two little girls to keep a shopping secret from their mum? That too about a nice pair of earrings?
How could they do such a thing? It’s inconceivable!
    Sweet memory.
