snuggled up

I always seemed to hear her first, little voice whispering “Dad, I have bad dreams can I come in.” My constant answer, “Sure honey, come on in”.

This night I lay quietly awake pondering some long forgotten computer issue when I heard her door creak, and the slap slide of little footed pajamas creep down the hall. Soon she stood outside the door, “Mom…. Mom….” calling softly in the night.

Whump, the elbow to the ribs made me jump, and I glanced over at my suspiciously motionless wife, so lovely and innocent beneath our comforter. “Dad…Dad…” a little louder now. My mind raced with plots and discovered treachery and then “Dad I have bad dreams…” and I gladly invited her in, steeling myself, hoping she wouldn’t crawl over my head or place her foot “somewhere” else. She snuggled in nicely, and computer problems a thousand miles away I drifted off to sleep.

Ugggh…. someone was crawling over my stomach….

“Honey, what’s the matter?”

“You snore too much, I’m going back to my bed.”

I love this, Bill. I enjoyed it and some of your other posts so much that I’d like to include it and others in an anthology I’m compiling of real-life upbeat and/or humorous stories that touched me that were written by bloggers. Please email me at russtowne@yahoo.com if you’d like to learn more about what I have in mind. Thank you!

  2. […] Of course, this is the same child who received a hard cure for bad dreams. […]

  3. Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while today. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as good as when I arrived. I’ll be back!

Very sweet! What memories…. My dad was a LOUD snorer–so loud that he even woke himself up with the explosive noise!

I loved the ending!! I was expecting the snoring part to come in!! I complain my dad for the very same reason when he dozes off in the living room or so but as much as I tease him over snoring, I love it more to see him sleeping calmly and hearing those little snores – they always make my day!!! A beautiful post B!!!
    Blessings,

Yeah, I think my dad’s like the hero of my life!! Every dad is a super hero of his daughter!!! I loved it when the expressions come from dad themselves cause my dad – he is a being on earth who would want everybody to know his feelings by their own and I still love him the most!!

Yes, I agree the father daughter connection is very important. I think that you are blessed, for when the father loves the daughter, in her heart she knows that she is worthy to be loved and treated well by her future husband…

of course she is probably older than you are now ( laughing ), And both of them make me very proud, but in my heart of hearts they still like to sit on my lap and listen to me read out loud to them….

Woahh!! I thought they must be little kids and after all you make me surprised once again with the twist that – I am the little one!
Anyway, blessings for both of them and good luck for their future!! I am sure, you are a proud dad and I hope to make my dad proud too!!
                Much love to you,

  9. making memories that is what that was, for now these memories sustain you 🙂
My girls seemed to always have a bad dream within a few minutes of each other, first one then another then the baby they would all pile in and their Dad would get up and go climb in one of their beds leaving “all” of his women in the one bed…did I mention we had a full grown Irish setter by the name of Gypsy? Had to have her part of the bed too! LOL
