celebrating
Posted: December 30, 2012 Filed under: history, pearls of wisdom | Tags: camping out in the living room, Celebration, history, my history, New Years 23 CommentsBeen through more than a few new year celebrations. Some worth remembering, some not, and some I can’t remember. But my fondest New Year’s Eve memories go back to when the kids were young and for our celebration the whole family would camp out in the living room.
In the Christmas tree’s glow we would roll out the sleeping bags on the living room rug. Jan would make popcorn and bring out the last of the Christmas cookies for our snack. When they were little they would nestle in with us while we read out loud. We might have been reading Dumas’ The Three Musketeers or The Man In The Iron Mask or maybe one of the innumerable Harry Potters. In later years we would play scrabble or upwords. We rarely made it until the ball dropped.
Instead, the ball would drop to all of us fast asleep, ringing in the new year in sweet dreams.
Sounds like a lovely time with the kids…very snuggley and fun! Those memories with children seem to be the best don’t they…
they absolutely do. Where our heart is, is our treasure.
Games. I love games. What a nice way to spend New Years Eve. In the last five years, we’ve given up staying up till midnight, though I did read until 11:48 this year. I love your thought of the ball dropping to us as we’re asleep!
thanks Lori! somewhere it was already the new year ( right?)

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
